E-learning that delivers
Structured learning - by which we mean traditional, modular e-learning - is something we value highly. It forms a large part of our resource development, and we treat each resource with the individual care it deserves.
E-learning should never just be a 'content dump'. Even in our most affordable, tool-based delivery, we never consider e-learning to be just page-turning; it always provides a rich, deep learning journey.
Resources are always based on a sound pedagogic approach. The subject matter, and the context in which the learning takes place, always lead the technical development.
We provide modularised learning that can be treated as a full course or 'dipped into'. Learners can work at their own pace, but their progress is punctuated by clear goals; we still want to give them a focus on achievement.
Our project in food labelling for the Food Standards Agency is a good example of this. Designed for food labelling enforcement officers, but accessible to everyone, the site offers detailed content about food labelling legislation that can be used as reference or as part of a training course. Enforcement officers who work through the whole content and answer questions successfully are rewarded with a certificate; others can access the content they need, when they need it.

For the then Centre for Excellence in Leadership, we developed Shaping my future, career development resources for FE leaders and managers. The materials make up part of a blended approach to learning, and provide flexible and relevant learning experiences for both self-development and continuing professional development. The materials are highly interactive and are underpinned by clear and meaningful pedagogy.
As another example, we created Class Learning ICT (CLICT) and Volunteering in Primary Schools (ViPS) for the Adult, Family and Community Learning Service. CLICT helps to upskill primary school teachers and assistants in the use of ICT and digital resources in teaching. ViPS helps to engage parents and carers in volunteering in schools and to develop their basic ICT skills. Both provided easy-to-use interactions and fit-for-purpose e-learning.
We've also created structured e-learning for LSIS, the National Learning Network, the Centre for Food Robotics and Automation, TEAM Food, UfI learndirect and the National Maritime Museum.
