DESQ talks interactive drama
On Tuesday 16 February, DESQ's Creative Director, Carlton Reeve will be talking about interactive drama as part of the professional development programme from Manchester's Digital Media Exchange (DMEX). DMEX is a knowledge and skills transfer project that links traditional TV professionals with new media expertise in the North West.
The session will explore some of the issues associated with developing new forms of narrative, especially those working across multiple platforms.
"Interactive drama relies heavily on game mechanics to balance the craft of storytelling with user participation" says Carlton, "but many projects do no more than break a perfectly good story into pieces. It could be so much more."
Taking case studies from across the industry and DESQ's own work in the field, Carlton will unpack the various models of combining drama with interactivity.
"I think there's a real opportunity to do new and playful things with stories by combining formats and media. We can make experiences more meaningful by drawing on the best the various disciplines have to offer."
