Aims
The Bling it on game was designed to promote Family Literacy, Language and Numeracy (FLLN) programmes and is a means of:
- engaging and motivating reluctant offender learners,
- improving their skills,
- encouraging the maintenance and enhancement of links with their families and communities and
- promoting transitions into further learning, volunteering and employment.
From our experience of developing immersive learning games, we knew that using a driving game to deliver Basic Skills would be an enticing environment to get offenders involved.
Based on this knowledge, we built a parallax scrolling ‘driving game’ environment that contains arcade style games. The games are a mixture of quick fire challenges and slightly longer games with more of a learning focus.
The player starts off on the road with a beat up, rusty car and by winning each game, the player can modify and improve their car to their own personal taste. Customising options include, getting a better engine, adding skirts and spoilers and changing the colours and wheels.
If you feel that a learning game approach might be suitable for your organisation, please
